Taking Control of Your Educational Environment

How to use the Special Features on this site

Introduction
This Website provides multiple tools that allow the student to control and even define his or her individual educational environment.

iPad/Tablet/Smart Phone Friendly
This Website has been designed to function smoothly on mobile devices. While the site includes Flash features, those devices (such as iPads, iPhones, and some other mobile devices) that are not "Flash-friendly" are redirected automatically to non-Flash versions of the study support tools.

How to Use the Table of Contents Links
At the top of most pages you will see a Table of Contents for that page (like the one above). This feature allows you to see the tools available on that page and quickly navigate to them by clicking on the links. (It is recommended that you view the tools in order.) These links will also be helpful when you revisit the page in order to restudy your favorite parts in the site.

Using the Text Resize Tool
Enlarge Font Size Decrease Font Size
Students may increase or decrease the size of the text on the page being viewed by clicking on the Text Resize Tool found on most pages.

Using Image Zoom
When you see an image on the site, it may allow you to zoom in. Just click on an image to see if it provides the zoom feature.
Many images on the main Web site pages include the Zoom feature

Using the Quick Internet Search Box
Most pages provide the Quick Search Internet Box in the right column, allowing students to conduct spur-of-the-moment searches using Google, Bing, or Yahoo search engines. In English or in Spanish!

"Click to Zoom" Images from the Manual
On many pages in this Website , you will find images from the Essential Skills for Paralegals Manuals. These images allow you to get a closer view of the images and provide a quick visual reference point for the material being studied. In addition, you will sometimes find bonus images relevant to that material. These images are usually found within the right column below the Quick Internet Search Box. Simply click on any of these images to zoom in.

Using the Where You've Been Pages
In the Essential Skills study support, you will find the Where You've Been page at the end of each Segment (before the Mock Exams). This tool allows students to quickly determine whether they missed any pages in that Segment. The Green Dots indicate you have visited that page, while the Red Dots indicate you have not yet been there.* Just click on any of the dots to go to that specific page.

* Note: This tool relies on "cookies" stored on your computer, and thus only indicates whether the computer you are currently using has been to those pages.

Using the Been There/Done That Check Boxes
The Check Boxes found throughout the site can be used in two ways:

Been There/Done That
After you have finished using a feature in a section, you can check it off. The site will remember the boxes you have checked (or unchecked) as long as you are using the same computer.*

Favorites
If you prefer, you can use this feature to indicate your favorite features, such as a particularly helpful exercise or demonstration, so you will know to return to it later. Just check the box and the Website will remember, as long as you are using the same computer.*

* Note: This tool relies on "cookies" stored on your computer, so only indicates boxes checked or unchecked on that specific computer.

Using the Extra Tools at the bottom of most pages
Most pages provide the Extra Tools at the bottom of each page.

More
This link may provide students with additional articles, links, or information. The material presented in the More section is not required, but may be helpful.

Report a Problem
If you have a problem using the Website , or find any errors or omissions, fill out this easy-to-use form. You can use this form on any page in the site, but it helps if you are specific as to the page or tool being referred to.

Updates
If any corrections or updates to the Essential Skills for Paralegal Manuals are needed, you can find them here.

Briefcase
Want to make a note to yourself to remind you where you left off? Need to make a list of sections to return to for more study? How about keeping track of your billable hours? The Briefcase Tool allows students to make lists, leave messages, and even print them out. No matter what page you are on when you use the Briefcase, that information will be available from any other page on the site (as long as you are on the same computer).* Give it a try below.

* Note: This tool relies on "cookies" stored on your computer, so only retains information entered using that specific computer.
