The scenarios presented in this section of the manual are mostly based on actual cases.

 

Paralegal Perspective . . .

THE CLIENT
As a paralegal, you do not get to choose your clients. However, in your manual you will be provided with several potential clients. Pick one, realizing this client will stay with you for the remainder of the course. Almost all of your research and writing assignments will be based upon that client. Resist the temptation of switching clients. Even if you have some difficulty, stay with your original client. After all, you won't be able to just give up on your real clients once you're a paralegal!

Just a couple of notes about the assignment of clients.

Be flexible
Your client facts that are provided are minimal, but you are allowed to change them to a substantial degree. Normally, you would have the client, attorney, and witnesses to talk with. During those discussions (in a real case) the facts would change. So if it helps, have some imaginary conversations!

Give yourself a break!
This is a learning process, not an exact science. Relax, and enjoy the educational experience. Don't feel like there will always be an exact right and wrong answer for the research and writing issues. As we progress through the program, you will become more knowledgeable about the area of law in which you are researching, and (more importantly) you will learn how to research and write for almost any area of law.
