Legal Writing: Litigation Documents

§6.1

Introduction

The list of the most common litigation documents provided in this section of the manual is fairly comprehensive. If, after this program, you have a good sense for these documents you will be in good shape.

As we progress through this chapter, and subsequent parts of the manual related to legal writing, remember that the skill being sought is "form manipulation." Being able to take an existing document and modify it to create a new one. This concept makes the process simpler, but also makes it more cost-efficient for the client (and attorney).

FORM BANKS
This was mentioned before, but please take it to heart: Create your own form bank. It is usually advisable to not only have a set of forms arranged in a folder on your computer, but also print them out, put them in a binder, and create an index. Eventually that form book will be one of your most powerful tools.
